Open Heavens [Monday April 20, 2015] daily devotion by Pastor E. A. Adeboye – The Kingdom of God on Earth

Topic: The Kingdom of God on Earth Memorise: Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. - Matthew 6:10 Read: Matthew 6:9-10 9 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. 10 Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Bible in One Year: Judges 1:1-3:6 and Matthew 24:15-35 MESSAGE: The nature of our expectations from God directly depends on His promises to us. Some promises of God may sound incredible, but He is always committed to bringing them to pass. If your expectation does not agree with His promises, you may forfeit its fulfilment. Our God is good and gracious. He does many things to prove His divine power. There are times when God unravels some mysteries to make us believe and know absolutely that His plan and purpose for us cannot be compared to our current struggles and toils. This is why every child of God must pray the kingdom of God into their life (Matthew 6:10)

After 39 years in prison, an epic tale of innocence found and bitterness lost

Jacob Baynham CLEVELAND - THREE months and six days after he walked out of prison, Ricky Jackson has a decision to make. The past few months have been full of decisions. Where to live? What kind of car to BUY? When to get up? Who to see? How to dress? Every time he turns around another set of choices is staring back at him. Mr. Jackson is 58 years old – almost retirement age – but these decisions are as new to him as they would be to a teenager. For the past 39 years, the particulars of his life have been dictated by the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction. Now, on the other side of the fence, the possibilities in a free life are overwhelming. Not that every decision is major. Now, for instance, he’s sitting with friends in a Hungarian restaurant near his new apartment in a squat row of brick buildings in East Cleveland. He holds a menu that he’s been studying for a while. He’s leaning toward the pan-seared chicken until his friend urges him to try something unfa

Open Heavens[Monday April 13, 2015] daily devotion by Pastor E. A. Adeboye – The Reward of Unrighteousness

Topic: The Reward of Unrighteousness Memorise: For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord . - Romans 6:23 Read: Acts 5:1-11 (KJV) 1 But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession, 2 And kept back part of the PRICE, his wife also being privy to it, and brought a certain part, and laid it at the apostles' feet. 3 But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the PRICE of the land? 4 Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God. 5 And Ananias hearing these words fell down, and gave up the ghost: and great fear came on all them that heard these things. 6 And the young men arose, wound him up, and carried him out, and buried him. 7 And it was about the space of THREE hours a

Clinton takes road trip to Iowa for first campaign event

By KEN THOMAS WASHINGTON (AP) — Hillary Rodham Clinton is hitting the road as she starts her 2016 presidential campaign — quite literally. Clinton left Sunday on a road trip from her home in Chappaqua, New York, in a van headed for Iowa, home of the nation's first presidential caucuses. The former secretary of state announced her Democratic presidential bid Sunday and will hold her first campaign event on Tuesday in eastern Iowa. The road trip was Clinton's idea, aides said. "When Hillary first told us that she was ready to hit the road for Iowa, we literally looked at her and said, 'Seriously?' And she said, 'Seriously,'" said longtime aide Huma Abedin in a conference call with Clinton alumni. "This was her idea, and she's been really excited about it since she came up with it." Abedin said Clinton's van stopped at a gas station in Pennsylvania, where the former first lady and New York senator met a family from Michigan.

Troops arrest top Mexican cocaine trafficker in Cancun

MEXICO CITY (Reuters) - Mexican troops arrested a top drug trafficker in the beach resort of Cancun who is wanted for running huge shipments of cocaine through Central America and to the United States, the government said on Sunday. Cesar Gastelum was detained by federal police and military troops in the early hours of Saturday as he cruised the strip of hotels and nightclubs lining the beach of Cancun in a truck, said national security spokesman Monte Alejandro Rubido. In December, the U.S. Treasury said Gastelum moved a "prolific" amount of cocaine through Guatemala and Honduras for the Sinaloa Cartel and that he is a major distributor of the drug in Central America. Australian man charged with 145 child sex offences

Sydney (AFP) - An Australian man was charged on Monday with 145 sex offences against at least 28 children, including rape, after allegedly using social media to groom them. Police claim the 47-year-old from Warwick, southwest of Brisbane, Queensland, used several aliases online -- including Jazz, Jazzman and David Bourne -- to prey on children under the age of 16. His alleged crimes, including making and distributing child pornography, were committed between 2002 to 2015, and involved victims in Australia. Police claim he asked the children for indecent photos and then used them to extort and in some cases rape, film and photograph them. Detective Senior Constable Russell Joyce told the Warwick Daily News that a complaint was made in April last year, which sparked a lengthy investigation to track down victims. "The reactions when we have found them have been everything from embarrassment to shock and in some respects, relief," he said. "We are still going a

Convicted killer of Dallas-area police officer set to die

By MICHAEL GRACZYK HUNTSVILLE, Texas — A Texas prisoner on death row for the fatal shooting of a Dallas-area police officer outside a convenience store is headed for execution. No last-day appeals were in the courts to try to keep 42-year-old Kent Sprouse from lethal injection Thursday evening in Huntsville. The U.S. Supreme Court in November refused to review his case. Medical TESTS showed the Boone County, Missouri, native had taken illegal drugs within 48 hours of the October 2002 shootings of Ferris Police Officer Marty Steinfeldt. The 28-year-old patrolman came under fire as he responded to a 911 call to a shooting outside the Ferris Food Mart, about 20 miles south of Dallas. Sprouse also was charged but not tried for 38-year-old Pedro Moreno's death. He was nearby pumping gas when he was fatally shot. MSN NEWS

Gonzalez homers 3 times to lead Dodgers past Padres 7-4

By BETH HARRIS LOS ANGELES — Adrian Gonzalez insists he's no home run hitter, even if his current power surge suggests otherwise. It's simply about making good contact with the ball for the 32-year-old first baseman, who is dogged in his hitting preparation. It's paying off, with THREE more home runs Wednesday night that made Gonzalez the first player in major league history with five in the season's first three games. He helped the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the San Diego Padres 7-4 to win their opening series 2-1. "Something like that is always cool to be able to accomplish," Gonzalez said. BOX SCORE: DODGERS 7, PADRES 4 Fittingly, Gonzalez received his Silver Slugger award from last season before the game. Then he went out and had a four-hit game to go with consecutive three-hit games on Monday and Tuesday, BECOMING the first National League player to do so since Orlando Cepeda of San Francisco had three straight three-hit games in 1963. &quo

Obama visits Jamaica, takes in Bob Marley museum

Kingston (Jamaica) (AFP) - Barack Obama became the first sitting US president to set foot in Jamaica since 1982 -- and made some time for the late reggae legend Bob Marley. On arrival, Obama descended from Air Force One to greet a long line of people including Jamaican Prime Minister Portia Simpson-Miller, whom he embraced. Obama then headed to a helicopter along with Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz. After a hotel stop, Obama headed to the Bob Marley Museum -- the former home of the superstar musician. The US president -- accompanied by aides including National Security Adviser Susan Rice -- took a brief tour of the Kingston landmark. "I still have all the albums," the US president was heard to say, as he checked out a wall of framed records and awards. Bob Marley, Jamaica's musical export with a global following, died of cancer in Florida in 1981. The museum is a large house with walls painted red, green and yellow and a statue of Marley playing his guita

Iran will only sign nuclear deal if sanctions lifted 'same day': Rouhani

By Parisa Hafezi ANKARA (Reuters) - Iran will only sign a final nuclear accord with six world powers if all sanctions imposed over its disputed atomic work are lifted on the same day, President Hassan Rouhani said in a televised speech on Thursday. Iran and the powers reached a tentative agreement last week in the Swiss city of Lausanne aimed at restricting Tehran's nuclear program in return for removing the economic penalties. All sides are working toward a June 30 deadline for a final deal on the nuclear work, which Western powers fear is aimed at developing an atomic bomb but Tehran says is purely peaceful. "We will not sign any deal unless all sanctions are lifted on the same day ... We want a win-win deal for all parties involved in the nuclear talks," Rouhani said. Since the preliminary agreement was reached, Iran and the United States seem to have different interpretations over some issues, including the pace and extent of sanctions removal. "O

White SC officer charged with murder in black man's death

By BRUCE SMITH and JEFFREY COLLINS NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Dramatic video that shows a white South Carolina police officer shooting a fleeing black man after a traffic stop has led authorities to file a murder charge against the officer amid public outrage over a series of deaths of unarmed black men at the hands of law enforcement agents. Protests were planned Wednesday in North Charleston, led by a group formed after the fatal shooting of another black man in Ferguson, Missouri. The video, provided to the dead man's family and lawyer by an unidentified person who shot the footage, shows North Charleston Patrolman Michael Thomas Slager firing eight shots at the back of Walter Lamer Scott as he runs away. The 50-year-old man falls after the eighth shot, fired after a brief pause. Scott's parents appeared separately on TV shows Wednesday morning, a day after the officer was charged. Walter Scott Sr. told the NBC "Today Show" that his son may have ru

Afghan soldier shoots, wounds 3 US troops in insider attack

By LYNNE O'DONNELL and RAHIM FAIEZ KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — An Afghan soldier opened fire on U.S. troops in Afghanistan on Wednesday, wounding three before he was shot dead by American troops, an official and an eyewitness said. The incident happened after a meeting between Afghan provincial leaders and a U.S. Embassy official in the compound of the provincial governor in the city of Jalalabad, according to Gen. Fazel Ahmad Sherzad. U.S. officials could not immediately be reached for comment. It is the second insider attack this year. An Afghan soldier killed three American contractors on January 29. The shooter was also killed in that incident. Sherzad, who is police chief for eastern Nangarhar province, said the incident happened immediately after the meeting and the embassy official has left. "Right after the U.S. official had left, suddenly an Afghan army soldier opened fire on the U.S. soldiers who were present in the compound," Sherzad told The Associa
