•As African coaches brainstorm in Cairo
Two months after the Brazil 2014 mundial, world soccer governing body, FIFA has given a pass mark to the Super Eagles of Nigeria and the Desert Foxes of Algeria, declaring that their performance in the competition was commendable.
The high rating was made yesterday in Cairo, Egypt, where African coaches are meeting to x-ray the performance of the five African represen- tatives in Brazil.
FIFA’s Director of Member Associations and Development, Thier- ry Regenass, who spoke at the gathering lauded the performance of the African representatives, especially Algeria and Nigeria, who progressed out of the group stage be- fore bowing at the round of 16.
“Africa had two teams at the second stage in Algeria, who were a sur- prise and Nigeria. Cote d’Ivoire and Ghana were also very close. The gen- eral level of the African teams was extraordinarily high,” said Regenass.
Nigeria’s coach to the FIFA 2014 World Cup in Brazil, Stephen Keshi and the Nigeria Football Federation Technical Director, coach Shuaib Amodu are among the top technicians of Af- rican football gathered in Cairo for the two-day conference, which are analyzing the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil.
The conference, which began Tuesday is a fol- low up to similar events held recently in Panama and Saint-Petersburg for the member associations of the Americas and Eu- rope. The head coaches and technical directors of all African national teams were invited by FIFA and CAF to analyze football’s flagship event from a technical perspective.
