No fewer than 10 persons were feared killed and many houses set ablaze yesterday during an early morning raid on Eggon community of Gidan Gambo in Lafia East Development Area of Nasarawa State.

The attackers, believed to be Fulani mercenaries armed with Ak 47 rifles defied the early morning rain and launched a surprise attack on the village, killing 10 people and injuring scores, before setting many houses ablaze.

The attack on Gidan Gambo is the latest in the serial attacks on Eggon communities carried out by suspected Fulani insurgents in recent times since hostilities broke out between the warring parties in the state.

A resident of Gidan Gambo, Likita Alaku, who escaped from the attack, told Daily Sun that the Fulani, numbering over 300, armed with AK 47 rifles invaded the village at about 6 a.m. and opened fire, killing any person in sight and burning houses.

“We woke up and saw many Fulani people with AK 47 rifles surrounding the village, shooting in all directions and burning houses,” he said.

Alaku, who lamented the sophisticated weapons in possession of the invading Fulani, called on both federal, state government and security agencies to disarm the gunmen to prevent them from further attacks on innocent people.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Nasarawa State Police Command, Umaru Ismaila Numan, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, said only one person was killed. Numan said policemen had been deployed to the scene to restore normalcy in the area.

A fire outbreak occured on 23 Road in Festac on Saturday the 14th, February, 2015 which is the popular Valentine's day. Jouleconcept's correspondent, Mr Juwah Awele covered the story and gave a report in form of an article about the occurrence. This can be read below: “There is fire in house 2! There were children locked inside the house…” those were the words of my elderly neighbour, Mrs A, returning from the scene of some ongoing tragedy. Immediately, my mother went for all our official documents she always keeps in a ready to go bag while, my father, brother and I set off in the direction of the blaze. On getting to the front of the close, T Close, we observed the residents of the first few houses on the left hastily withdrawing their belongings from their homes; stuffing generators, plasma TVs, gas cylinders and the works into the back seat of their cars. Some had already driven their cars away! Immediately, we realised the fire was coming from the next cl
