Renowned Legal Practitioner, Robert Clarke, believes that the more the Chibok girls are left in the camp of the Boko Haram sect, the more danger they may pose to the society when they return.
He expressed this concern during an interview on Channels Television’s breakfast programme, Sunrise Daily.
“If we allow those girls to stay there for more than 6 months, they’re going to be indoctrinated. If they are indoctrinated to the extent after 6 months and they are released, they become time bombs for us in Nigeria. They may even become suicide bombers”, he warned.
He disclosed that the abduction of the girls was a human problem that could only be solved through negotiation with the insurgents.
“What I would suggest is that we should do all that it takes to negotiate for their release. Four weeks ago, did America not trade off 4 or 5 prisoners from Guantanamo Bay for just one soldier? Did the Israelis not because of one soldier release over 1,000 prisoners?
“Don’t let us deceive ourselves, these are human beings, and they are relatively young and susceptible to manoeuvring now. We have to negotiate.”
The Senior Advocate of Nigeria also noted that the involvement of the international community was an indication that the abduction of the girls was one that should be handled with more seriousness than the way the war on terror had ever been handled.
“When Nigeria was fighting this Boko Haram war and people were being killed, the international community never showed any interest, because everywhere in the world there is this type of thing happening.
“But when it came to the Chibok girls, when you have abducted human beings who are still alive, it became an international issue”, he said.
