JNI pleads with Boko Haram to desist from terrorism

The apex Islamic body in Nigeria, Jama’atul Nasril Islam (JNI) yesterday pleaded with the Boko Haram insurgent group to desist from terrorism and embrace peace.

JNI also called on Muslim Ummahs to commence the recitation of Al-Qunut for the people of Borno State, the entire North East and the nation at large, where innocent souls were being massacred on daily basis.

In a statement signed by its Secretary General, Dr. Khalid Abubakar Aliyu and made available to journalists in Kaduna yesterday, JNI urged Muslim Ummahs to intensify prayers against all manners of upheavals against the nation.

According to JNI, “bearing in mind, the significance of the last 10 days of Ramadan, Nigerian Muslims are hereby called upon to maximally put to use the last 10 days by reciting more of the glorious Quran, being punctual in observing the daily obligatory prayers, the Tarawih and Tahajjud in congregation.

“More importantly, they should watch out for Laylatul Qadr (the night of power) which often comes up on one of the five exceptional nights within the last 10 nights of Ramadan. The five nights, according to authentic Hadith of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) are 21st, 23rd, 25th, 27th and 29th. As always, we therefore urge Muslim faithful to intensify prayers for the Ummah against all manners of upheavals, particularly special prayers (Al-Qunut) for the people of Borno State, the entire North East and the nation at large as they are being massacred with seeming impunity almost every day.

There were children locked inside the house…” those were the words of my elderly neighbour, Mrs A, returning from the scene of some ongoing tragedy. Immediately, my mother went for all our official documents she always keeps in a ready to go bag while, my father, brother and I set off in the direction of the blaze. On getting to the front of the close, T Close, we observed the residents of the first few houses on the left hastily withdrawing their belongings from their homes; stuffing generators, plasma TVs, gas cylinders and the works into the back seat of their cars. Some had already driven their cars away! Immediately, we realised the fire was coming from the next cl
