APC Tells Jonathan To Caution Asari-Dokubo, Tompolo

Following the Niger Delta ex-militants threats to wage war against the country if President Goodluck Jonathan should lose the February 14 presidential election, the All Progressives Congress Campaign Organisation, (APCPCO) has reacted and made demands of the President.

APCPCO in a statement issued on Sunday, signed by the Directorate of Media & Publicity of the campaign, Garba Shehu, urged President Jonathan and his party, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to call to order Niger Delta ex-militants who have threatened to wage war against the country if their ‘son’ loses the February 14 presidential election, Premium Times reports.

Shehu said the irresponsible ultimatum by the ex-militants is not only a barbaric threat on the sovereignty of Nigeria, but also go against the spirit and letter of the non-violence pact to which President Jonathan also signed.

According to him, the declaration of war against the state is causing panic and concern among Nigerians who are already embattled by so many challenges particularly of insecurity, which have been begging for attention.

He reminded Mr. President that as commander-in-chief it is his primary responsibility to ensure the protection of the citizens and their properties, noting that such open declaration of war by the ex-militants and several other acts of violence need to be condemned by him in the interest of the democracy, unity and stability of Nigeria.

“These drum beats by elements associated with President Jonathan need to change to peace beats so that the citizens, especially the youth need to be encouraged that the sustenance of the country’s democracy is better achieved through the ballot and not the bullet,” he said.

The APC Campaign called on Mr. Jonathan to make good on his declaration that his ‘re-election is not worth the blood of any Nigerian’ by calling these war mongers in his domain to order, adding that the latest threat is not an isolated act as the threat on General Muhammadu Buhari by Governor Fayose and the attacks on the party’s offices and rally in Rivers are pointers of coordinated insurrection against the APC ahead of February general elections.

“It is disconcerting that the president has not immediately addressed such treasonable actions by persons who in the past have taken up arms against the Republic, and whose amnesty is dependent on their good behaviour and complete disarmament. The president needs to remember that he took an oath, as commander-in-chief, to protect Nigeria against all threats, external and internal. In this case, his silence could be misconstrued as an implicit approval of this declaration of war, seeing as the meeting of the warlords and subsequent declaration of war were from his own backyard, his home state. The first step the President needs to take, to show seriousness in dealing with this issue is to dismiss from his government, his Special Adviser on Niger Delta, Kingsley Kuku who presided at the meeting at which this obnoxious resolution to dismember Nigeria was taken,” Shehu said.

It would be recalled that the Niger Delta militants announced that there will be consequences if President Jonathan fails to win the 2015 general elections.

Meanwhile, PDP which is also crying foil in their campaign in the northern part of the country recently warned the APC and its presidential candidate, Muhammadu Buhari, over unprovoked attacks on President Goodluck Jonathan’s campaign train in some parts of the north.

ART– AN EYE INTO ANOTHER WORLD

For some reason, I have always been a fan of the arts. The ability to create something from nothing, the ability to bring to life what was once but only a figment of one’s imagination to me, is to dare to rival the gods, if you believe in them. I consider the artist to be a gift to man to constantly remind him that he is possible of anything! This piece is more of a show than tell as I am certain that it would not be proper to write an article on art and tell more words than I show works. I have therefore had to steal from a friend, a classmate and most of all, a talented artist as I, myself, am not so gifted as to put up my works for display but still, I shall humour you eventually with my rendition of a popular cartoon that you may recognise if you grew up watching ‘Looney Tones’. Nevertheless, gift is not a necessity to appreciate beauty and the plethora of magna opera (The many great works). Mr Joshua Zirigbe (9β) is a Nigerian from Delta State and he has given us the opportunit...

THE FIRE ON 23 ROAD – FESTAC, LAGOS

A fire outbreak occured on 23 Road in Festac on Saturday the 14th, February, 2015 which is the popular Valentine's day. Jouleconcept's correspondent, Mr Juwah Awele covered the story and gave a report in form of an article about the occurrence. This can be read below: “There is fire in house 2! There were children locked inside the house…” those were the words of my elderly neighbour, Mrs A, returning from the scene of some ongoing tragedy. Immediately, my mother went for all our official documents she always keeps in a ready to go bag while, my father, brother and I set off in the direction of the blaze. On getting to the front of the close, T Close, we observed the residents of the first few houses on the left hastily withdrawing their belongings from their homes; stuffing generators, plasma TVs, gas cylinders and the works into the back seat of their cars. Some had already driven their cars away! Immediately, we realised the fire was coming from the next cl...
