Junior Seau complained of burning headaches

Sporting News  Jasmine Watkins
Junior Seau after the NFL was a completely different person. According to his family, it was hard to see him slipping away.

"I saw a man right before my eyes changing," Seau's son, Tyler said. "He wasn't that happy go-lucky guy anymore."

Showtime's "60 Minutes Sports" sat down with the Seau family about the man after his playing days were over. The former linebacker was diagnosed with chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) after he committed suicide in 2012. Seau's family wants the NFL to take responsibility for their part in his death. They have filed a wrongful death lawsuit and have rejected the settlement they were offered. His widow Gina, along with his children, are taking a stand against the league.

"The NFL is taking no ownership for what they've done," Tyler said.

"When he would come home from games, he would go straight to the room... lower the blinds and say, 'Quiet, my head is, is burning,'" Gina said.

The full story on the Seau family will air Jan. 6 at 10 p.m.
