Nigeria rises to 42nd in FIFA ranking

The Super Eagles of Nigeria moved a place up to 42nd place in the FIFA rankings released yesterday.

The three-time African champions are now the seventh -ranked African side behind Algeria, Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana, Tunisia, Cape Verde Island and Senegal.

The top 10 remained unchanged with Germany in the lead followed by Argentina and Colombia.

Germany remained top of the pile after, while Argentina sits in second position with 1, 534 points.

Colombia, Belgium and the Netherlands are third, fourth and fifth respectively, while Brazil remained sixth on the FIFA ranking.

Former world champions, Spain dropped a place to the tenth position after amassing 1, 144 points.

In Africa, Algeria remained the highest ranked African team having placed 18th in the world as newly crowned African kings, Cote d’Ivoire is second on the continent after it moved eight places.

Ghana is third in Africa, but moved to the 25th position in the latest edition of the FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking.

The Black Stars, who finished second at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations moved up by 12 places to break into the top 30. Ghana now has 864 points from its previous 714 points.

Equatorial Guinea who finished fourth at the 2015 African football showpiece is the highest mover after climbing 69 places up the ladder to the 49th position in the world.
