Real Madrid don't frighten PSG - David Luiz

Real Madrid don't frighten PSG - David Luiz
By Pilar Suarez

EXCLUSIVE: The centre-back played in the French champions' defeat to Barcelona on Wednesday but has no fear ahead of the draw for the last 16

David Luiz has insisted that Paris Saint-Germain are not afraid of Real Madrid or anyone else who they might be drawn against in the last 16 of the Champions League.

A 3-1 defeat to Barcelona on Wednesday ensured that Laurent Blanc's men finished second in Group F, meaning they are not seeded for the next stage of the competition.

As a result, their potential opponents in the last 16 are holders Real Madrid, last season's runners-up Atletico Madrid, Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich, Premier League table-toppers Chelsea, Borussia Dortmund and Porto.

David Luiz does not fear being drawn against one of the European heavyweights and insists that PSG must be prepared to go toe-to-toe with the best if they want to win their first-ever Champions League title in 2014-15.

"We could play against Real Madrid or we could play against another team - either way, all that qualified are great teams with great squads of players and we are prepared to face them all," the centre-back, 27, told Goal after the clash at Camp Nou.

"PSG don't think about avoiding the best clubs, we think about being prepared to do our job against anyone if we want to be champions of Europe.

"Paris Saint-Germain are candidates to win the Champions League. We just have to think like always: that we are a great club and to have the philosophy of win every game and prepare properly."

PSG were outmatched on Wednesday by Barca's unorthodox 3-2-3-2 formation but David Luiz denies the Ligue 1 champions were caught off guard, claiming instead that the quality of Lionel Messi and his attacking team-mates was always going to be key.

"We were not taken by surprise," the Brazilian defender added. "Barca are known for their philosophy of always playing with a focus on ball possession. However, they did put a man more in midfield for their passing game.

"It wasn't bad luck - Neymar, Luis Suarez and Messi are always going to create goalscoring opportunities. They served each other well and that's part of football."

David Luiz also labelled Lionel Messi the greatest footballer of all time after his performance derailed PSG's bid to finish top of Champions League Group F, with Zlata Ibrahimovic's opener having given the French champions hope.

"It's their efficiency that made the difference," he told Canal Plus. "They were better than us; they have three incredible forwards. Messi is fantastic, the best player ever.

"Barca also have a smart head coach and other great players."

PSG are back in action with a trip to Guingamp on Sunday as they pursue Ligue 1 leaders Marseille, whom they trail by one point after 17 matches.

ART– AN EYE INTO ANOTHER WORLD

For some reason, I have always been a fan of the arts. The ability to create something from nothing, the ability to bring to life what was once but only a figment of one’s imagination to me, is to dare to rival the gods, if you believe in them. I consider the artist to be a gift to man to constantly remind him that he is possible of anything! This piece is more of a show than tell as I am certain that it would not be proper to write an article on art and tell more words than I show works. I have therefore had to steal from a friend, a classmate and most of all, a talented artist as I, myself, am not so gifted as to put up my works for display but still, I shall humour you eventually with my rendition of a popular cartoon that you may recognise if you grew up watching ‘Looney Tones’. Nevertheless, gift is not a necessity to appreciate beauty and the plethora of magna opera (The many great works). Mr Joshua Zirigbe (9β) is a Nigerian from Delta State and he has given us the opportunit...

THE FIRE ON 23 ROAD – FESTAC, LAGOS

A fire outbreak occured on 23 Road in Festac on Saturday the 14th, February, 2015 which is the popular Valentine's day. Jouleconcept's correspondent, Mr Juwah Awele covered the story and gave a report in form of an article about the occurrence. This can be read below: “There is fire in house 2! There were children locked inside the house…” those were the words of my elderly neighbour, Mrs A, returning from the scene of some ongoing tragedy. Immediately, my mother went for all our official documents she always keeps in a ready to go bag while, my father, brother and I set off in the direction of the blaze. On getting to the front of the close, T Close, we observed the residents of the first few houses on the left hastily withdrawing their belongings from their homes; stuffing generators, plasma TVs, gas cylinders and the works into the back seat of their cars. Some had already driven their cars away! Immediately, we realised the fire was coming from the next cl...
