The Chicago Bears have turned into a complete dumpster fire in recent weeks, so it only makes sense to assume heads are going to roll at the conclusion of the season. After Monday night’s pathetic showing against the New Orleans Saints, the Bears’ front office has apparently decided that one of those heads will belong to head coach Marc Trestman.
According to Dan Bernstein of CBS Chicago, Bears ownership met late Monday night and came to the conclusion that Trestman will not be back with the team in 2015. The team’s owners reportedly remain undecided on the future of general manager Phil Emery.
Simply put, Trestman doesn’t seem like he is cut out to be a head coach in the NFL. The former CFL coach is a great offensive mind and would probably make a good offensive coordinator, but he seems to lack leadership qualities.
A recent report from Jason La Canfora of CBSSports.com indicated that Trestman’s laid-back style of coaching has basically led to a free-for-all in the Bears locker room. While guys like Brandon Marshall have been left to call out their teammates after poor performances, Trestman does stuff like addressing his team from the back of the room and rarely ever handing out discipline.
If you want an example of how dysfunctional the Bears have become, look no further than offensive coordinator Aaron Kromer anonymously bashing Jay Cutler and then giving a tearful apology to the team. Trestman chose to not even address the situation publicly.
